Hopewell seeks to auction off ethanol plant
The city of Hopewell wants to auction off the Appomattox Bio Energy Plant owned by Osage BioEnergy LLC in order to recoup more than $1.6 million in unpaid tax revenue. City Council unanimously passed a motion by Vice Mayor Wayne Walton to initiate a tax sale of the $200 million facility, which closed last year before ever beginning with the production of ethanol.
City Attorney David Fratarcangelo said that the auction will be carried out at Hopewell Circuit Court following a title examination to determine additional liens and after Osage is formally notified. “This will probably happen within the first two months of 2013,” Fratarcangelo said.
